Kat Von D visits Dublin

I’m a regular photographer for Getty Images and every so often they send you on a job which is a little bit of a dream come true! I’ve been a fan of Kat Von D since her days tattooing on Miami Ink so when they asked me to shot her visit to Debenhams in Dublin to launch her new make up range there was no way I was going to miss it! As an avid vegan all her makeup is cruelty free and vegan friendly so of course I had to stock up when I was there. Being an event photographer means working incredibly fast so on the day it was a case of photographing everything from the makeup artists at work to fans meeting Kat and their tattoos. The atmosphere was great everyone was so excited to meet her which made it a great day to shoot and turning around the images for the tight deadline was tough as I had so many to choose from!

The Artistry Collective (Kat’s travelling makeup artist team) and the human equivalent of caffeine – so hyper and great at cheering up a crowd who waited for hours to meet their make up heroine!

The full selection of iages can be found on www.gettyimages.com if you want to check them out but here are some faves!

the end of the decade!!

Well 2009 has been a busy year for me – I decided to do a wee run down of some of my favourite shots of the year and its brought back so many good memories of the year!!  I’ve shot bands I’ve always dreamed off, worked with so many class people, travelled to festivals and seen some amazing shows, some of these shots  you’ll have seen before others you might not have! Thanks to everyone who I’ve had the pleasure of working with this year and here’s to 2010 being a great year for all of us!

My 2009 ….

I have always wanted to shoot ACDC they are one of my favourite bands ever so getting the chance to shoot their Dublin Date for Hot Press was a dream come true – made even better by this picture making it into Hot Press’ top photos of the decade in their annual out now!

Then there was Download festival which I shot at for Kerrang this year – giving me the chance to shoot someone I’ve wanted to since I was a gothy teen  – Marilyn Manson – and also to snap some of the most hilarious characters I’ve ever met – it was an amazing weekend topped off my shooting Steel Panther – one of my fave bans of the year!

YENI (Young ENterprise Northern Ireland) are one of my clients I absolutely love working for – their events are always so high energy and enjoyable and honestly I come away inspired after every one – was shooting their key programme graduations last week, viagra the overall winners get a trip to Canada lucky bunch! Fate Awards 09

Wee sneaky preview – more of my shots in Sunday Life tomorrow and the next issue of Fate will be full of them! A great night had by all! That said getting my hair done to stand on a red carpet in the rain for 2 hours was not perhaps as much glam as I had expected – next year i’m wearing wellies (don’t worry i’ll stick diamonds on them to make them fancy for the occasion!) This is definitely my shot of the night – Gail Porter wearing Titty Von Tramps wig and molesting him!! says it all!

shooting a comedy night in Belfast last night – amazingly nobody picked on me despite  being the eejit at the front with a camera and therefore perfect comic fodder!
